SolarEX Istanbul - Session: “Transformation in Energy Markets: Geopolitical Impacts and the Role of Solar Power and Storage in Supply Security”

Today at SolarEX Istanbul 2026, we successfully held the session titled “Transformation in Energy Markets: Geopolitical Impacts and the Role of Solar and Storage in Supply Security,” organized by our Association.

The session, moderated by our Association Board Chairman, Gama Energy Board Member and General Manager Mr. Tamer Çalışır, featured our Board Member, ETD President and Entek Elektrik General Manager Mr. Bilal Tuğrul Kaya, our Association Board Member and Eksim Enerji CEO Mr. Arkın Akbay, our Member ACWA Power’s Central Asia and Turkey Business Development Director Mr. Mohamed Youssef, and our Member Naturel Enerji Board Member and CEO Mr. Tolgay Benderli shared their valuable insights.

During the session, our panelists emphasized that supply security has become the most critical priority in the shadow of global geopolitical crises, while also addressing the critical role of energy transition in reducing Turkey’s dependence on energy imports. While highlighting the importance of increasing grid flexibility and the role of baseload power sources in maintaining system balance during the energy transition, it was noted that as solar energy investments have become active market players, energy storage and battery systems must be supported by a sustainable revenue model. Additionally, the importance of regulatory harmonization in large-scale international projects and the future of aggregation activities—the sector’s new digital frontier—were among the key topics discussed.
