SolarEX Istanbul - “Turkey’s Energy Outlook” Panel

Our Association’s Board Chairman, Gama Energy Board Member and General Manager Mr. Tamer Çalışır, served as a speaker at the “Turkey Energy Outlook” panel held at SolarEX Istanbul.

During the session moderated by EMBER Turkey Leader Ufuk Alparslan, TÜREB President İbrahim Erden, HESİAD President Elvan Tuğsuz Güven, and Solarbaba founder Ateş Uğurel shared their valuable insights.

During the session, our Chairman highlighted the indispensable role of baseload power plants—which ensure supply security—as the share of renewable energy sources in the system rapidly increases. He specifically addressed the financial and operational challenges faced by natural gas power plants, emphasizing that the continued operation of these facilities is critical for grid flexibility and uninterrupted energy supply.

He underscored that with the commissioning of nuclear power plants, the need for storage solutions—and particularly investments in pumped-storage hydroelectric (PHES) projects—will increase more than ever before.
